This little cookie will make your next dinner memorable

I had a lovely lunch last weekend with a bunch of lovely, crazy, smart ladies. We don't see each other that often, but always go straight to the Essence of Things. You know that type of friendships, don't you?

One very special lady, half Italian, half Canadian, shared with us a special Italian tradition. I never heard of it before. But it elevated our afternoon to another level straight away.

She handed us this AMARONI cookie. You never forget these cookies, once you have seen them once. It is most beautifully wrapped in paper, all different colours.

We had to open up the cookie, leave the cookie itself aside - or eat it straight away - and smooth the paper completely.

Then we were asked to make a little tower with that piece of paper; like this:

And here comes the trick: you then have to light the paper, just like a candle.

As you see, we did it on our plate for the main course, which I suggest you to do. Although there is no danger for burning up your house, I recommend you to play it safe.

What you then experience is magical..

It burns down completely at first. You have to wait for the last part that will suddenly fly up and catch that small burnt piece of paper.

Not to worry, it's cooled down by the time you catch it.

And if you can catch it, you can make a wish...

To me, this Italian tradition was mesmerizing...

Wishing you lovely dinner parties with your family and friends!

Pictures are always welcome.
